The following funds are for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled on the Columbus campus and will continue to be enrolled in their undergraduate program during the next academic year. They have been designated by the donor(s) for a specific major, group of majors or an area of interest.
Application for the humanities, natural and mathematical sciences, and social and behavioral sciences scholarships may be completed through one online application form. Application for the Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund requires a separate application. All of the following awards will be applied toward the next academic year.
Shared Application
The following scholarships are available to students enrolled in a humanities major. In order to be considered for the following scholarships, please complete the online application form linked below and ask a faculty member to submit a letter of recommendation.
The Barbara E. Anderson and Dr. Larry Berliner Undergraduate English and Chemistry Scholarship Fund
This fund will be awarded in alternate years to undergraduate students majoring in English, chemistry or biochemistry who demonstrate financial need.
The Brandt Family Memorial Scholarship
The Brandt Family Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one or more undergraduate students with a declared major in a humanities discipline and demonstrated financial need.
The Clara Hilberg Teller Endowed Scholarship
The Clara Hilberg Teller Endowed Scholarship provides one or more scholarships to students who have a declared major in a humanities discipline and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
The Elizabeth Kiss Amstutz Scholarship
The Elizabeth Kiss Amstutz Scholarship will be awarded to one or more undergraduate students with a declared major in a humanities discipline.
The George W. Hendrix and Elizabeth L. Hendrix College of Humanities Scholarship Fund
Provides merit-based scholarships for students pursuing a major in the humanities.
The Harriet Pratt Lattin Scholarship Fund
The Harriet Pratt Lattin Scholarship Fund provides one or more scholarships for students with a declared major in a humanities discipline.
The Luther F. Lalendorf Memorial Scholarship
The Luther F. Lalendorf Memorial Scholarship provides one or more scholarships to undergraduates with a declared major in a humanities discipline. Priority will be given to students who have participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization, but other applicants with strong community service will be considered.
Richard C. Knopf Scholarship
The Richard C. Knopf Scholarship provides one or more merit-based awards to undergraduate humanities majors who place in the top 10% of their class.
The following scholarships are available to students enrolled in a natural and mathematical sciences major. In order to be considered for the following scholarships, please complete the online application form linked below and ask a faculty member to submit a letter of recommendation.
Amgen Biosciences Student Excellence Fund
Provides one or more scholarships to students who are majoring in a natural and mathematical sciences discipline. First preference is for students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular genetics, and/or physics.
The Barbara E. Anderson and Dr. Larry Berliner Undergraduate English and Chemistry Scholarship Fund
This fund will be awarded in alternate years to undergraduate students majoring in English, chemistry or biochemistry who demonstrate financial need.
Bevra Hannahs Hahn, M.D., Undergraduate Merit Fund in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences
This fund provides merit-based scholarships to undergraduate students majoring in one of the natural and mathematical sciences.
Biological Sciences Alumni Society Scholarship
This fund provides scholarships or awards for undergraduate students majoring in biological sciences who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or financial need.
College of MAPS (Mathematical and Physical Sciences) Alumni Society Scholarship
This fund provides scholarships or awards for an undergraduate student(s) enrolled in the mathematical and physical sciences who demonstrates academic excellence and/or financial need.
David and Velva Zarley Scholarship
This fund provides scholarships to undergraduate students with preference for students who are from Muskingum, Licking, or Perry counties of Ohio and are majoring in a science.
The Edward G. Mayers Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships for students pursuing a major in the natural sciences.
Helen Sells Clarkson Memorial Scholarship
Provides scholarships for students who are pursuing majors in the natural sciences.
John D. and Marguerite M. Sullivan Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to students in the biological sciences.
Milliman for the State of Ohio Scholarship
This fund provides scholarships to students majoring in actuarial science, data analytics, mathematics, or statistics. Special consideration is given to students who are a member of an organization that is open to all, but whose mission seeks to advance the needs of populations who are historically underrepresented in one of these majors. If applicable, the personal statement should describe related organization involvement along with other requested information.
Dr. Mitchell Gregg Roe Scholarship Fund
Provides one or more scholarships to third or fourth-year students who are majoring in a natural and mathematical sciences discipline and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. First preference is for students majoring in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or chemistry.
Sharp Memorial Scholarship
Provides scholarships for undergraduate students from Ohio who are majoring in the natural and mathematical sciences. Scholarships are based on financial need.
Steve and Diane Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund
This fund provides need-based scholarships to undergraduate students who are majoring in the natural and mathematical sciences and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. First preference is for students who have graduated from the Johnstown-Monroe School District, second preference is for students from Licking County, Ohio, and third preference is for students from Ohio.
Theodore Suie, Jr. Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships based upon scholastic achievement to students majoring in biological sciences who have financial need. Further consideration, where possible, is to be given to students who are orphans. If applicable, the personal statement should include this information along with other requested information.
Timothy A. Trautman Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships to undergraduate students who are majoring in one of the natural sciences.
The following scholarships are available to students enrolled in a social and behavioral sciences major. In order to be considered for the following scholarships, please complete the online application form linked below and ask a faculty member to submit a letter of recommendation.
Dale McArdle and Marilynn Duker Scholarship in the Arts and Sciences
This fund provides scholarships to undergraduate students with preference given to students pursuing a major in the social and behavioral sciences.
Paul and Marnette Perry Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships to undergraduate students who have a minimum 3.3 GPA. Preference for students majoring in the social and behavioral sciences, particularly political science, who demonstrate financial need but are not eligible to receive the federal Pell grant.
Social and Behavioral Sciences Alumni Society Scholarship
This fund provides scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in a social and behavioral sciences discipline who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or financial need.
Steve and Diane Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund
This fund provides need-based scholarships to undergraduate students who are pursuing a major in speech and hearing science and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. First preference is for students who have graduated from the Johnstown-Monroe School District; second preference is for students from Licking County, Ohio; and third preference is for students from Ohio.
William E. Cofman Scholarships
Provides one or more scholarships to arts and sciences majors in need of financial assistance.
Robert F. Gagel/Margo Cox Endowment Fund to Honor Frances Naylor & Wolfgang Flaischhauer
Provides a scholarship to an arts and sciences major who is a junior and has officially declared medicine as a preprofessional area of interest.
The Ian Greg and Colleen Clement Garland Scholarship Fund
Provides need-based scholarships to first-generation students pursuing a major in the arts and sciences.
The Marjorie and Samuel Harris Scholarship Fund
Provides a need-based scholarship to a third-year arts and sciences major with a 3.0 or better grade point average. Preference is given to Ohio residents who attended an Ohio high school.
The Phyllis Elaine Burns Mantia Endowed Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships for arts and sciences majors who are first-generation college students.
The Dorothy McAllister and George L. Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides one or more scholarships for arts and sciences majors who have a 3.0 or better grade point average and are pursuing a major in either Drama Education, Speech Education or Music Education.
Ratimr Timashev and Angela Timasheva Arts and Sciences Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to students who are majoring in the arts and sciences.

Personal Statement
Personal statement of 500 words or less that describes how receiving a merit and/or need-based scholarship would enhance your studies or achievement of an academic goal. In addition, describe how you have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and service within and outside the university during your time at Ohio State. If you have other academic or recent life experiences relevant to a merit and/or need-based scholarship, or any special circumstances or reasons why you should be considered for a scholarship from the College of Arts and Sciences, please describe them.
Format to Save Your Personal Statement

You will be asked to enter the name and annual value of all merit and/or need-based scholarships and grants that you currently receive. This includes scholarships and grants awarded by the college, the university or an external organization, as well as any state and federal grants such as a Pell grant or state grant. Before submitting your application, review all information entered to ensure there are no errors. Once you submit your application you will not be able to make any changes.
Ask an Ohio State faculty member for a letter of recommendation. Your recommender will need to know the information listed below and the deadline for submission. The recommendation is due the same date the application is due. Provide your recommender with a link to this web page and direct them to Step 4.
Although a faculty recommendation is strongly preferred, we recognize that some students have not yet had an opportunity to develop a relationship with a faculty member. In that case, the student may submit a recommendation from a TA, advisor or other Ohio State staff member.
Faculty Recommender
A student has asked you to write a recommendation letter on behalf of their application for a College of Arts and Sciences merit and/or need-based scholarship. In your letter, please address the student's academic work, research/creative activity, and connection of academic work in relation to their professional goals, as well as any additional information that may be helpful to the review committee.
You will need to know the student's name.# (e.g. buckeye.123). Save your recommendation in the following format in order for your recommendation to be correctly matched with the student's application: Student Last Name_#_Recommendation.pdf (For example: Jane Buckeye.123 would be saved as Buckeye_123_Recommendation.pdf).
Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund Scholarships
This fund provides tuition scholarships to undergraduate students who are pursuing a career in publishing or publication. Scholarships are need-based. Applicants must have a current year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Student Financial Aid.
