Majors

About this program

Now and in the future, our communities require excellent leaders in every area; this major is designed to respond to that need. The College of Arts and Sciences leadership major immerses students in the core principles of leadership while also providing them with a broad interdisciplinary grounding in the liberal arts. Majors chose a specialization that further allows them to engage with the specific skills and content of their chosen field, ranging from politics or business to sports, environment, or the arts.

Why study leadership at the College of Arts and Sciences?

With 38 departments and 900 tenured and tenure-track faculty, the College of Arts and Sciences is one of the largest arts and sciences colleges in the country. The leadership major leverages the college’s size, quality of instruction, and extraordinary curricular breadth to equip Ohio State students with the knowledge and skills to become ethical, effective, and visionary leaders in their chosen profession.

What can you do with this degree?

The liberal arts core of the leadership major provides every major with crucial skills—to ask questions, to think clearly, to communicate, to understand diverse perspectives, to navigate a complex world ethically—that serve leaders in every field. The specializations then allow graduates to understand and speak to careers in particular fields: law, politics, social justice, military and security, urban leadership, innovation, environment, sports, arts, business and health. The simple answer is that a leadership major can do anything. The major is designed to broaden one’s opportunities, understanding that effective leadership is needed in expected and unexpected spaces.
