This Signature Project offers a growing suite of offerings to high schools and middle schools across Ohio that support students, teachers, and administrators in activating learning to create meaningful change in their school buildings and districts. Using writing exchange, research collaboration, leadership development, spoken word expression, and policy recommendation, students are changing their schools for the better!
Erase the Space Ohio
This collaboration between Erase the Space, the Office of Engagement, schools, and other community partners connects students, teachers, and communities in collaborative, non-competitive writing exchanges over the course of a school year. It provides authentic experiences with social difference and debate that mirrors the problem-solving situations students encounter in life outside their classrooms. Erase the Space Ohio currently impacts over 460 students who participate in exchanges early in their high school careers to better prepare them to take on the most pressing social challenges and issues facing our city, state, and nation with empathy and collaboration.
Ohio State Student Leadership Research Collaborative
This collaboration brings students together from multiple school districts, representing a diverse population of learners that work together in a structured and focused way to produce real change that is relevant to their lives as learners. Student teams of five each in Central, Southern, and Northern Ohio work together to explore leadership qualities, quantitative/qualitative measurement, data analysis, and advocacy strategies that develop them into voices for productive change in their respective schools and communities.
Student Stakeholders
Student Stakeholders' Exposure Leads to Expansion program provides students in grades 6-12 with immersive field experiences that inspire, empower, and expand their horizons. By engaging in college visits, career exploration, and community service opportunities, students gain invaluable real-world insights that align with their interests and aspirations.
Student Stakeholders offer:
- Itinerary Planning: Tailored experiences that resonate with your students’ future goals.
- Operational Support: Comprehensive logistical assistance to ensure smooth and successful events.
- Fundraising Assistance: Guidance and resources to make these opportunities accessible to all students.
- Resource Templates: Ready-to-use permission slips, presentation slides, and fundraising guides to simplify the process.
In addition to the Exposure Leads to Expansion program, The Student Stakeholder offers a range of educational consulting services that can further support school missions. Enhancing student engagement, strengthening Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) initiatives, or developing new student-centered learning strategies, Student Stakeholders collaborates with school administrators to creating a more enriching educational environment.
Respect the Mic
This collaboration between Respect the Mic, the Office of Engagement, schools, and other community partners connects students, teachers, and communities in collaborative, non-competitive spoken-word project development. Collaborating with schools in and around Columbus, these projects culminate in large public performances featuring youth and professional poets who support the events.
