Shanghai Rankings highlight academic excellence in the Arts and Sciences
Several programs in the College of Arts and Sciences earned strong international recognition in the 2025 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS).
GRAS evaluates world universities across 57 subjects based on nine objective indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact and International Collaboration. Each year, GRAS presents around 20,000 subject units from approximately 2,000 universities across about 100 countries and regions.
Communication held steady at 7 and psychology was ranked at 8 globally after being listed at 15 last year. Sociology was ranked at 14 and political science at 22, while geography moved from 34 to 27 this year. Physics was ranked at 36.
The biological sciences and economics were also recognized with a ranking in the 51-75 range globally.
