Two Arts and Sciences faculty named to Highly Cited Researchers 2021 List
Two faculty members in the Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences have been named to the annual Highly Cited Researchers 2021 list from Clarivate.
The list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index. Fewer than 6,700, or about 0.1%, of the world’s researchers across multiple fields earned this exclusive distinction in 2021.
The Arts and Sciences faculty members are:
Matthew Sullivan
Professor, Department of Microbiology
Sullivan maps viruses throughout the global oceans, and the approaches he has developed help researchers understand how viruses impact ocean biogeochemistry, climate change microbiology in soils and various disease states in humans. He is the founding director of Ohio State’s Center of Microbiome Science, co-director of the Genetic Diversity and Adaption team of the National Science Foundation-funded EMERGE Biology Integration Institute, and co-director of the Microbial Communities Program at Ohio State’s Infectious Diseases Institute.
David Weinberg
Distinguished University Professor and Chair, Department of Astronomy
Weinberg studies the large-scale structure of the universe, dark energy and dark matter, the formation and evolution of galaxies and quasars, the intergalactic medium, and the origin of the chemical elements. He also is a member of Ohio State’s Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics.
The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate. It also uses the tallies to identify the countries and research institutions where these citation elite are based.
