U.S. News & World Report ranks Arts and Sciences graduate programs among nation’s top in 2023
Several departments in the Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences are home to graduate programs and specialty areas ranked among the nation’s best, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2023 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. This year, U.S. News updated its PhD program rankings for several disciplines within the sciences and social sciences.
Top programs in Arts and Sciences include chemistry (25), Earth sciences (28), physics (23), statistics (24) and psychology (30).
Within chemistry and physics, numerous specialty areas received high rankings, including analytical chemistry (6), condensed matter physics (20), cosmology/relativity/gravity (13) and elementary particles/fields/string theory (15).
In the area of mathematics, computer science and statistics, the following specialty areas were ranked: artificial intelligence (24), systems (19), applied math (18) and biostatistics (21).
Earth sciences received rankings in environmental sciences (10), geochemistry (21) and geology (15).
Finally, the social psychology specialty within the Department of Psychology is ranked seventh in the nation.
U.S. News’ rankings of graduate and professional programs cover just a small portion of the programs offered at Ohio State and in Arts and Sciences. Since not all fields are updated every year, many other programs in the college maintain active top-30 rankings:

Other fields within the college are recognized in different rankings for their research productivity and impact, including in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities subject rankings and the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
